A salt marsh is like a sponge because, they both absorb the water and let go of the water. They are different because, a alt marsh is not a sponge it is a part of land. Just because they act the same doesn't mean that thay are the same. A salt marsh is a grassy moist part of land and a sponge is not grassy.
